CRITIQUE
His hands are used to working with nature, as can be seen in his paintings. This is probably the reason why his canvases tend to have an extra dimension. With the skilful painting technique of Hervé Treuil, a farmer with his feet in the mud, this is also an artist with his head in the clouds. Stony buildings, sunny meadows and others knobbly characters are visible in the old Limousin, and stand out in a particular way. Hervé Treuil certainly knows how to paint the Corrèze that he cherishes and witnessed from birth and it is now where he resides. Equipped with an amazing array of masterful techniques he demonstrates an underlying sensitivity. He makes “his” land and men glow as no one else can. A magician of colours, a master of the depth of fields and enthusiasm of interior beauty, Hervé Treuil belongs without a shadow of doubt, to the great impressionists of a bygone era.
Jean-Marc PLANTADE le Parisien
Hervé Treuil is an young artist in love with the French’s countryside. He celebrates through his painting of villages and stones with a remaining soul but also the soft and rustic charm of the houses and gardens of his forbears. Like Bonnard, and Monet, he covers his canvas with a frame in bloom, of a gardens corner or quiet undergrowth. The eye catching beauty can be found either in a field of rape, nearly luminescent under a stormy sky.
A subtle romantic character appears in his valleys and rivers where the mist slightly rises. One must appreciate that his artwork, respects the skill and style of tradition whilst offering inspiration and a personal touch.
You will discover in this exhibition an instant sense of serenity even if you are an art lover or neophyte. Hervé Treuil always says that he is “a farmer-painter”, we should say that his paintings reflects a countryside we all love, saved in its colours, its traditions and its scents. His palette vibrates with a chromatic range interchanged with the finest nuances. All of this probably enhances to the growing reputation of this sensitive and generous artist from Corrèze.
